MIDDLEBURY — Jamie Gaucher has only been Middlebury’s first-ever business development director for about 10 days, but he has already mapped out what he wants to accomplish during his next 90.

Gaucher’s plan is to lay a strong foundation for job growth in Middlebury that will include setting up new software to track corporate prospects, networking with Middlebury College alumni as well as state and local economic development officials, and meeting with local business leaders to get feedback on how to fill voids in the local job market.

MIDDLEBURY — Every good album has a story behind it. For Addison County native Jer Coons and music partner Caroline Rose, the story of their debut album, “America Religious” — which will be released on June 11 — began with a costly mistake.

“I accidentally bought a car,” Rose explained during a recent interview in her soon-to-be adopted hometown, Middlebury.

“Caroline’s life is defined by impulsive behavior,” offered Coons.

Middlebury to vote Wednesday on $6.4 million school budget

Posted on April 8, 2013 |
By John Flowers

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury voters on Wednesday, April 10, will meet at Mary Hogan Elementary School to decide a proposed 2013-2014 spending plan of $6,418,788, representing a 4.46-percent increase. The budget reflects, among other things, a growing commitment to science, technology, engineering and math programs.

But thanks in part to a student enrollment that’s expected to grow by 10 next fall (to a total of around 405), the property tax-affecting portion of the budget is expected to rise by only 0.82 percent, according to school administrators.

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury selectboard members got somewhat of a jolt at their meeting last Tuesday when they received an estimate that it would cost $525,000 to bring the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems of the municipal gym up to modern working standards, an amount that is just $50,000 short of the $575,000 sum that officials had hoped would suffice in making the well-used building completely up to speed.
