Set builders help Mt. Abe musicals reach new heights

ANESU looks for new business manager

BRISTOL — The Addison Northeast Supervisory Union is looking for a new business manager, the district said on its website. The current Chief Financial Officer is Ed Gomeau.

The chief financial officer oversees a staff of six, reports directly to the superintendent, and oversees $27 million in expenditures annually, the job posting stated. When reached for comment, district data and communications specialist Karen Wheeler declined to say when or why Gomeau was leaving, though the job posting said the new contract start date is Jan. 15, 2014.

Fundraising for playground begins in Bristol

BRISTOL — The Bristol Green Playground Committee, which is raising funds to build a new playground on the town green, kicked off its fundraising campaign this past Wednesday at the Bobcat Café on Main Street.

The committee, a joint venture of the Bristol Recreation Department and the Bristol Downtown Community Partnership, is using the crowd-funding website indiegogo.com to raise money. The goal is to raise $11,000 in 30 days — as of Nov. 22 at noon, $3,415 had been raised from 26 donations, most of which were between $25 and $50.

Bricks fall from downtown Bristol building

BRISTOL — High winds this past Sunday sent bricks from a downtown Bristol building crashing onto pavement below. Fortunately no one was injured.

Sometime after 5 p.m. on Nov. 17 high winds dislodged hundreds of bricks from the west wall of the structure, located at 24-26 Main St., building owner Cheri Jackman said. The bricks broke one of the windows in the building, which formerly housed The Village Corner Store.

Jackman wasn’t sure when the mess would be cleared.

Bristol residents appeal Lathrop pit decision to Supreme Court

BRISTOL — A 10-year battle to open a gravel pit in Bristol will likely come to end in front of the state’s highest court. A group of Bristol residents are appealing an Oct. 18 Environmental Court decision authorizing the construction of the pit to the Supreme Court.

Mount Abe school board seeks to fill two vacancies

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School Board is looking for Bristol residents to fill two vacancies that have opened on the 13-member board. Board members Dick Merrill and Gary Farnsworth recently resigned before the completion of their terms.

The Bristol Elementary School board will fill the vacancies.

Bristol reviews Plank Road apartments plan

Stanley Livingston, a Bristol resident who operates Meghan’s Meadow View LLC, filed a zoning permit application with the town Aug. 29.

Bristol clinic lands $812,500 grant to expand service to the needy

BRISTOL — A six-figure federal grant announced last week will enable a Bristol medical clinic to expand its services, particularly to low- and moderate-income residents in Addison County.

The Five Town Health Alliance was awarded $812,500, which will be put toward expanding services at the Mountain Health Center in BristolWorks complex. It was one of three practices in Vermont that were designated as “community health centers.”

Temporary bridge on Route 116 in Bristol open to two-way traffic

BRISTOL — Workers from J.H. McDonald Co. of Lyndonville moved closer to completing a temporary bridge across the New Haven River at Sycamore Park in Bristol late last month, when this photo was taken by Peter Grant. By late last week the span was pretty much ready to go, Bristol Town Administrator Bill Bryant said on Thursday. By Friday, with the asphalt was down, it was open to two-way traffic.
