Car stolen from downtown Bristol

BRISTOL — Police in Bristol are on the lookout for a car stolen in the village enter on Wednesday evening.

On Feb. 26, at 6:54 p.m. Bristol police received a complaint that some males had stolen alcohol from Champlain Farms. Police said that while they were investigating, one of the males thought to be involved in the theft of the alcohol escaped arrest by fleeing in a vehicle he stole from behind Cubbers restaurant.

Town Meeting Previews 2014

Every year on or around the first Tuesday in March Vermonters gather with their neighbors to weigh in on town, school and highway budgets and to express their views on matters of local interest. The annual town meeting, which has been taking place for more than 250 years in many towns, is also a time for townspeople to re-establish relationships with those whom they see at the store or school drop-off.

Eight candidates seek Middlebury selectboard seats

The Addison Independent has interviewed the eight candidates who are seeking spots on the Middlebury Board of Selectmen. There are two candidates for a one-year term on the board (Dean George and Heather Sealey), and six candidates for two three-year seats (Laura Asermily, Craig Bingham, Brian Carpenter, Ted Davis, John Freidin and Eric Murray).

Supreme Court OKs fast food restaurant, Jiffy Mart on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — The Vermont Supreme Court of Feb. 21 ruled in favor of South Burlington firm Champlain Oil Co. (COCO), which since 2008 has been working to build a gas station, convenience store and fast-food restaurant on the former Route 7 site of the Ferrisburgh Roadhouse.

ANwSU offers JoAn Canning job of superintendent

VERGENNES — The Addison Northwest Supervisory Union board has offered the ANwSU superintendency to current Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union Superintendent JoAn Canning, and the board expects Canning to accept the post on Thursday.

The ANwSU board made the offer on Tuesday morning after Canning, the last candidate standing for the post, made a daylong Monday visit to ANwSU.

UD-3 voters OK lease option

MIDDLEBURY — Addison Central Supervisory Union residents on Tuesday evening voted 306-118, by paper ballot, to allow the UD-3 school board to negotiate a lease with the town of Middlebury for a Creek Road parcel that would host an 11,500-square-foot recreation facility.

Bingham grabs spotlight over mailing

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury Selectman Craig Bingham on Tuesday sharply criticized what he said was “false” and “misleading” information contained in an informational flier about the proposed $6.5 million municipal building/recreation project  that the town recently sent to local homes and businesses.

Seniors voice mixed feelings about relocating center

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury-area seniors have mixed feelings about the potential relocation of the Russ Sholes Senior Center from the municipal building at 94 Main St. to a proposed new recreation facility off Creek Road. Some of the center’s 12-14 “regulars” said they would have no problem making such a transition, while others said they’d prefer to see the facility remain downtown where they could continue to run errands at nearby stores and banks.
