Middlebury project revote set for Tuesday

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury residents will go to the polls next Tuesday, May 13, to vote again on a $6.5 million plan to build new town offices and a recreation center.

Residents on March 4 voted 915 to 798 in favor of the plan, which calls for a new, 9,400-square-foot municipal building to be built at 77 Main St. and a new, 11,500-square-foot recreation center to be erected on land off Creek Road.

Pipeline opponents, supporters testify in Shoreham

SHOREHAM — More than 170 people flooded the Shoreham Elementary School gym on Wednesday evening to weigh in on a controversial plan to extend a natural gas pipeline from Middlebury to the International Paper Co. mill in Ticonderoga, N.Y., with most of the speakers urging state regulators to deny a permit for a $70 million project for environmental and public safety reasons.

Ferrisburgh to decide school budget after cuts

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh residents on Tuesday, May 13, will decide the fate of a $3.5 million Ferrisburgh Central School budget proposal that is about $120,000 lower than the FCS board’s initial plan that lost on March 4, 450-279, or about 62-38 percent.

Ferrisburgh to consider land next to town offices, school

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard on Tuesday agreed to continue talking to Charlotte resident Clark Hinsdale III about possibly buying his 2.2-acre lot behind the town office building, a parcel that also abuts Ferrisburgh Central School and United Methodist Church property.

Hinsdale — a former Ferrisburgh resident who said he planned to move back to town — contacted the FCS board and town officials about a year ago and offered the land to the town or school for $40,000.

Sheldon exhibit shows the evolution of regional gardens

MIDDLEBURY — A new, colorful exhibit has bloomed at the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History. On May 6,  the “Lost Gardens of New England” took root for a three-month run that will breathe new life into some of the region’s most resplendent flowers of yesteryear.

Lincoln hires firm to retool its website

LINCOLN — The Lincoln selectboard on April 29 hired a firm to revamp the town’s website, discussed the aftermath of mud season and heard concerns about speeding all-terrain vehicles in town.

The selectboard unanimously approved a quote by B Mighty Two, a Lincoln-based company that helps small businesses with their web presence, to help with the town’s website. For $125 per month, or $1,250 per year if paid in a lump sum, the firm will retool and manage the town website — lincolnvermont.org.

Green Up Day 2014 a success

ADDISON COUNTY — This past weekend, residents all over Addison County got out their rubber gloves and green trash bags for the annual Green Up Day. While the tally of garbage collected is still rolling in and will be released in the upcoming week, event organizers said individuals and small groups cleaned over 15,000 miles of roads while the Vermont Agency of Transportation took on 2,700 miles of state highways and roads.
