Galentine’s Day in Vergennes to benefit Atria Collective

Celebrate friendship + love yo self at a Galentine’s Day party hosted by Adventure Diner coming up on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 5-8 p.m., at the Vergennes Opera House.

WomenSafe, Addison County and the town of Rochester’s primary organization for battling sexual and domestic violence, has adopted a new name reflecting a more diverse mission and clientele: “Atria Collective.”

The article suggests that some individuals may feel that because sexuality and partial nudity are a part of burlesque, that it may be considered an inappropriate choice of fundraising entertainment for a local anti-violence group such as WomenSafe.

Although “WomenSafe” and “burlesque” may read as an oxymoron at first, the Middlebury organization, which advocates for and supports victims of domestic abuse, is leveraging the recently reclaimed artform during a fundraising event this Friday evening.

WomenSafe is excited to announce this year’s art for their annual Card Fundraiser. The 2023 card was made by Jacqueline Lore. The title of the image is “Tenderness.”

Events like this don’t happen in a vacuum and it takes many hands to pull it off.
