Eagle boys’ soccer blanks Commodores

Even with injured or absent players, the Mount Abe boys’ soccer team defeated Vergennes, 3-0, on Tuesday.

The Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team rolled to a big win this past week, defeating visiting Oxbow, 8-1.

 The three Addison County high school boys’ golf teams and the MUHS girls’ golf team all saw action last week.

Five Vergennes Union High School rising seniors have been chosen to attend Green Mountain Boys’ State, which will be held June 22-27 on the campus of Norwich University in Northfield.

“My whole transformation physically and confidence-wise was really big for me, going from an unathletic … little kid, and a little kind of closed off, to now I’d say I’m pretty confident,” said new VUHS graduate Connor Brogan.

Family members and friends of Vergennes Union High School graduates almost filled the school’s gym on the evening of June 6 to applaud and cheer as 72 seniors went through the traditional rite of passage into adulthood.

The Vergennes Union High School girls’ and boys’ track and field teams scored in a number of events in the June 5 Division III championship meet at Burlington High School, but both finished back in the pack overall.

This year the Vergennes American Legion Auxiliary Unit 14 will sponsor four 11th-grade students as delegates to Green Mountain Girls State, June 22-27.

Sometimes it’s what you don’t do that matters. On Tuesday, Vergennes Union High School baseball players chose not to swing at pitches out of the strike zone.

In a Tuesday baseball game at Vergennes Union High School that mixed in solid pitching and sparkling defense with a few critical miscues, the host Commodores rallied past Middlebury for a rare victory over their county rivals, 4-2.

The host Mount Abraham Union High School earned solid victories on Tuesday in both the girls’ and boys’ sides in a three-team track and field meet attended by Vergennes and smaller Randolph contingent.

The Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative girls’ lacrosse team lost two road games late last week dropping their early-season mark to 0-3.

The Vergennes Union High School baseball team opened its season by splitting a pair of close home games in the past week.
