Letter to the editor: Local runners were successful this track season

At the NCAA Division III Championships in Geneva, OH on May 24, MUHS grad Isabel Olson placed 8th in the 1500m with a time of 4:34.93 and was named a first team All-American, her second such designation as she had accomplished it in cross country last fall.

The Vergennes Union High School girls’ and boys’ track and field teams scored in a number of events in the June 5 Division III championship meet at Burlington High School, but both finished back in the pack overall.

The Middlebury men’s track team won the NESCAC Championship on April 26 and the Panther women placed fourth, but I have seen no mention of it in the Addison Independent, yet there has been extensive coverage of lacrosse and baseball.

The host Mount Abraham Union High School earned solid victories on Tuesday in both the girls’ and boys’ sides in a three-team track and field meet attended by Vergennes and smaller Randolph contingent.

Vergennes Union athletes won two races and placed in five more events at the Division III track and field championship meet, held on Thursday, May 30, at Fair Haven Union High School. 

Led by junior Jazmyn Hurley from Middlebury Union High School, three high school runners from Addison County on Saturday qualified to compete at the New England Championships, which will be held on June 8 at the University of New Hampshire.

Winning performances by Tiger junior sprinter Jazmyn Hurley and one Tiger and two Vergennes relay teams highlighted local high school teams’ efforts at a Wednesday, May 15, track and field meet the Middlebury Union team hosted at Middlebury College.

Word comes to us that several alums of the Middlebury Union High School track and field team have been running well and achieving success in college athletics.

In a six-team Tuesday track and field meet at Mount Abraham at which teams from all three Addison County high schools competed, the host Eagle girls’ and boys’ teams fared best among the local contingent.
