MUHS latest to fall to Mt. Abe softball

The Mount Abraham Union High School softball team continued marching toward a top-four Division II seed on Tuesday, when the Eagles defeated host Middlebury, 13-4, in a game that was more competitive than the score might indicate.

In recent local high school softball action limited by more wet weather, Mount Abraham and Middlebury both picked up road wins, while Division III Vergennes came up short against two top D-II teams.

In recent local softball action, Mount Abraham won two out of three games, with one victory at the expense of rival Middlebury. The Tigers won their only other outing in a rain-shortened schedule, while Vergennes dropped a pair of games.

In a week of local high school softball action curtailed by rainy weather, Mount Abraham picked up a win by defeating Otter Valley in the Eagles’ only outing, Middlebury split two games, and Vergennes picked up its first victory.

The Middlebury Union High School softball team broke into the win column in a big way on Tuesday by defeating host Champlain Valley, 20-5 in six innings, a result that followed a road loss to Colchester late last week.

The Mount Abraham Union High School softball team breezed past host Spaulding on Tuesday afternoon, 12-0 in five innings, to remain unbeaten in the early going.

Visiting U-32 High School rolled past the Middlebury Union High School softball team in its April 15 season opener, 15-8.

Nineteen members of the Middlebury, Mount Abraham, Otter Valley and Vergennes union high school softball teams received postseason recognition from either the Lake Division or Southern Vermont League B Division coaches. 

Host No. 2 seed Lyndon ousted the No. 7 seed and defending champion Mount Abraham softball team in a Division II quarterfinal on Friday, June 7, 13-10.
