MUHS boys’ soccer bulldozes its way to D-II semifinal

No. 2 seed Tiger boys’ soccer advanced to the Division II semifinal by soundly beating No. 10 Lake Region on Saturday.

In high school girls’ soccer playoff action on Tuesday Mount Abraham, also the only team to play at home, was the only local squad to advance to the second round of the Division II postseason.

Middlebury split games with its Addison County rivals Vergennes and Mount Abraham to highlight recent high school girls’ soccer play.

Mount Abraham moved to .500 with a key home win to highlight recent high school boys’ soccer action. 

In a pair of local boys’ soccer rivalry games in the past week, Vergennes tied Mount Abraham in Bristol, but came up short at home vs. Middlebury.

In limited high school girls’ soccer action in the past week, Middlebury, Vergennes and Otter Valley each lost their only outing. 

The Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ soccer team scored early and often in Tuesday’s home game on the way to an 8-1 victory over visiting local rival Vergennes. 

The Vergennes Union High School boys’ soccer team allowed visiting Green Mountain Valley to get off to a quick start on Monday, and the Commodores never recovered in a 3-0 setback despite outplaying the Gumbies throughout the second half. 

A dramatic victory by Mount Abraham over Middlebury highlighted local girls’ soccer action between Sept. 27 and Oct. 3. 

In recent high school boys’ soccer play, Middlebury split two games, Mount Abraham earned a tie in two outings, Vergennes picked up a victory, and Otter Valley won once in three away contests.

In a hard-fought girls’ soccer match on this past Saturday, Middlebury outlasted Vergennes in the Commodores’ homecoming game, 2-1.
