Panthers see mixed results in return to play

As the second semester got underway for Middlebury College sports teams, women’s basketball split a pair of games at a holiday tournament, men’s hoop dropped a tight road contest, and men’s hockey lost an away game and won at home. Women’s hockey was idle and will resume play this Saturday with a non-league game at Endicott.

The results were mostly positive for Middlebury College teams in their final week of action before the Panther athletes sat for final exams and then headed home for the holiday break. 

The Panthers dropped a pair of home games over the weekend to NESCAC rivals just before they head home for the holidays.

The Middlebury College men’s basketball team dropped a pair of home games to teams in the University Athletic Association conference this past weekend to fall to 2-6 with three games left in the Panthers’ first-semester slate.

The Middlebury College women’s basketball team split a pair of games this past weekend at a tournament hosted by Williams College.

Middlebury College men’s hockey surged passed Conn College before falling to Tufts this past Friday and Saturday.

The Middlebury College men’s hockey team lost and settled for a tie at a tournament hosted by Plattsburgh State this past weekend. 

In recent Middlebury College action, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams won twice.

The Middlebury College women’s hockey outplayed and outshot visiting Plattsburgh in Sunday’s final of the Panther-Cardinal Classic. Nevertheless, the Cardinals went home the winners.

The Middlebury College men’s soccer team bowed out of the NCAA Division III tournament on Sunday, when host Amherst edged the Panthers, 1-0, in a quarterfinal matchup.
