5 Town Friends of the Arts is now accepting grant applications for its Spring round of community grants. The community grants program helps fund activities and events in the fine arts, performing arts, and other cultural experiences to enrich the lives of people living in Monkton, New Haven, Bristol, Lincoln and Starksboro.

Eight seek spots on Monkton selectboard

Highlighting Town Meeting Day voting in Monkton are races for three seats on the town’s selectboard, which have opened up after a few longtime members decided to step down from their posts.

Paul W. Sherman, 87, of Monkton

Paul W. Sherman, 87, of Monkton passed away on Feb. 2, 2025, at the McClure Miller Respite House. He was born May 29, 1937, in Granville, N.Y. In 1954 and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and began a career in engineering.

Budding and aspiring authors should plan on attending the presentation, “So, you want to write a book” on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., at the Russell Memorial Library in Monkton. The speakers will be Eugenie Doyle and Ivor Hughes.

Monkton will lose three selecboard members

Three spots are opening up on the five-member Monkton selectboard, as a few longtime members have announced they will vacate their seats in the coming months.

New Monkton town forest conserves a key resource

The town on Nov. 22 purchased 450 acres of forestland from the A. Johnson Company, conserving the land with the Vermont Land Trust and establishing the Monkton Town Forest. 

Monkton Scouts are selling Christmas trees

BSA Troop 525 is once again selling Christmas trees and wreaths at 265 Mountain Road. Self-service, for your convenience on the honor system to pay, will begin on Nov. 30 with someone there every weekend if you need help from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m.
