Updated: Middlebury students end encampment, strike deal with administrators

Middlebury College students on Monday struck a deal with administrators and dismantled the pro-Palestinian encampment formed in the center of campus.

Over 100 students at Middlebury College have formed an encampment on campus in solidarity with the people of Gaza, joining a nationwide student movement protesting Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas.

After a well-attended Ceasefire Shabbat held on Nov. 10, the group will hold a Shabbat for Justice Friday, Dec. 1, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Crest Room at McCullough Student Center, located at 14 Old Chapel Road on the Middlebury College campus. 

There have been five wars in the last 15 years between Israel and Hamas. How do we end the current one and prevent a sixth from happening, sooner or later?

As the Israel-Hamas war continues to unfold overseas, members of the Middlebury College and surrounding community are grieving the lives lost in recent violent attacks as well as looking to share more information about the ongoing conflict. 

I am horrified at the collective punishment now being meted out to the civilians of Gaza.
