As I was reading the tributes to Victor Nuovo in this newspaper following his death a few weeks ago, it occurred to me that a fitting memorial would be to name the Cross Street bridge in his honor.
Betty also planted patches of the common orange lilies along the road and they are still growing today. I think of her when I see them.
“The death of Betty Nuovo marks the end of an era in Middlebury and Vermont politics,” said state Sen. Chris Bray, D-Bristol. “With Betty, ‘democracy’ was a verb.”
Former longtime state Representative and Middlebury Selectperson Betty Nuovo died on Tuesday, July 4, at the age of 91.
If you’re lucky, you’ll spot Victor and Betty Nuovo just about any morning, walking hand-in-hand along Main and/or Weybridge streets.
