Last week, Thursday, was Major League Baseball’s Opening Day, despite the fact that the Dodgers and Cubs had played two official games in Japan the week before.

The Middlebury College baseball team won four of five games in the past week— including their last four in a row — to improve to 9-7 as the Panthers head into the NESCAC part of their schedule.

The Middlebury College baseball team lost three of four recent games, one played at home and three in California on the Panthers’ spring break trip. Midway through their journey westward, Middlebury’s record stood at 5-6.

The Addison County American Legion baseball team opened its summer campaign by winning three out of five games between June 25 and 30 after bad weather wiped out AC’s first few outings. 

Nineteen members of the Middlebury, Mount Abraham, Otter Valley and Vergennes union high school baseball teams received postseason recognition from either the Lake Division or Southern Valley League B Division.

After uncooperative weather washed out the Addison County American Legion baseball team’s first four scheduled games of the summer, AC opened at home at Middlebury Union High School on Tuesday with a 7-4 victory over Champlain Valley. 

It could be said two baseball teams won Saturday night’s Division II high school baseball final between No. 6 Mount Abraham and No. 8 Middlebury, which was played at UVM’s Centennial Field.

The Mount Abraham baseball team is going to the Division II championship contest for the first time since winning the last of six titles under former Coach Jeff Stetson in 2016. 

After nail-biting wins in the Division II quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, the No. 8 seeded Middlebury Union High School baseball team will be making the program’s first-ever appearance in a title game.
