Karl Lindholm: ‘Candlesticks always make a nice gift’

I love watching movies with my kids, now adults. These days, that usually means watching from home in a darkened living room on the big TV, without phones and other distractions.  

Now, dear readers, what you may not know is “Voice of the Red Sox” Joe’s relationship to Middlebury and Middlebury College. 

In 1972, Peter Gammons started writing baseball “notes” in the Sunday Boston Globe, a whole page of baseball news in which the baseball beat writer “empties out the notebook.” Over the years it has become a Globe staple, a must read.

The Addison County age 9-11 Little League baseball team won one game and lost one at the East Regional Tournament of Champions in Beverly, Mass., last week. Unfortunately that was not enough for the team to advance to the next round.

The Addison County 9-11-Year-Old Little League Baseball All-Star Team on Saturday defeated host Brattleboro, 6-3, to win the age-group title and complete an undefeated 3-0 run through the championship tournament.

The Addison County American Legion team picked up two victories, one by forfeit in five outings, between July 15 and 19, a stretch that put AC into fifth place in the Northern Division standings at 7-8 with three games to go.

Visiting Essex topped the Addison County American Legion team on Tuesday, 8-2, a result that doesn’t disguise the fact that a young AC team remains in contention for a playoff berth.
