- LIBRARIAN TRICIA ALLEN on Monday directs young readers to some of the books available in the new Mini Ilsley Library, which is now officially open inside the National Bank of Middlebury on Main Street. The library is open inside the bank’s Duclos Building on Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Fridays it’s open til 5. Because it’s a smaller space, some of the Ilsley’s books are stored off-site, but patrons can borrow them online and librarians will bring in selected books from remote storage every day. - THIS BARRED OWL, seen recently in Lincoln, is sitting on a white birch tree that was once a feeding station for a Yellow- Bellied Sapsucker. Sapsuckers drill a matrix of holes in the bark to tap the “birch beer” that flows in the spring. Photo by Dale Cockrell
- MOUNT ABE STUDENTS dropped to the hardwood and mimed like they were rowing a boat every time the Eagle boys’ basketball team sank a three-pointer during this past Friday’s game at Vergennes. The little skit re-enforced the idea that the Eagles were working together, but ultimately the imaginary boat ran aground as the Commodores triumphed. Independent photo/Steve James
