The latest COVID-19 numbers (Oct. 28)

The Vermont Department of Health today, Thursday, October 28, is reporting four new cases of COVID-19 in Addison County since yesterday, for a total of 1,473 cases since the pandemic began in March of 2020.

Addison County has logged 68 positive COVID-19 tests during the past two weeks, underscoring the continuing surge in virus activity since the Delta variant surfaced this summer. Officials with the DOH and CDC are urging the unvaccinated to get a shot, as the Delta variant has shown itself to be more contagious than the regular strain of the disease and, in many cases, less lethal when it does infect a vaccinated person. Helen Porter nursing home on Friday reported five recent cases.

The DOH today is reporting 316 new COVID-19 cases statewide, for a total of 39,559 positive tests since the pandemic began. There are currently 57 people in hospitals being treated for the coronavirus, 6 of whom are in intensive care, according to state officials. Eight people are currently being monitored in the hospital for possible COVID symptoms.

A total of 360 Vermonters have succumbed to COVID-19 since the pandemic began. About 0.9% of the state’s cases have resulted in death.

Middlebury College today is reporting one new case for a total of three active COVID-19 cases (two employees, one student). The institution has reported seven new positive cases since the beginning of this academic year, out of a total of 4,027 tests administered.
