HANOVER, N.H. — Despite the efforts of 10 local senior high school lacrosse athletes selected for the matches, New Hampshire senior lacrosse all-stars swept their Vermont counterparts in Saturday’s Byrne Cup Twin State All-Star Lacrosse Games.

The New Hampshire boys prevailed, 15-10, and the Granite State girls won, 19-5.

A major reason the boys’ game was closer was the work of Middlebury Union goalie Jack Rizzo, who made 28 saves for Vermont and was awarded a game ball by Coach Ryan Fitzpatrick of Colchester.

Essex midfielder Christopher Davis, who scored twice, also earned a game ball. Mount Mansfield’s Owen Trudeau scored three times to lead Vermont.

Mount Abraham senior Griff Paradee scored the game’s first goal to give Vermont the lead.

Also selected for the game were MUHS midfielder Mason Kaufmann and Mount Abe-Vergennes defender Quincy Cook.

The New Hampshire girls took charge early when Abby Hawkes scored the game’s first three goals. Brooke Chandler led the winners with six goals.

Vergennes senior Sydney Weber paced Vermont with two goals, and her classmate Hannah Kelly also scored for the Green Mountain team. Senior defender Savannah Scrodin also represented the VUHS-Mount Abe cooperative team.

From MUHS, goalie Lydia Deppman, defender Camryn Jaring, and middie/defender Kaitlyn McNamara were selected to play in the game.
