Starksboro to discuss future of Robinson School

STARKSBORO — The Starksboro selectboard will host a community forum at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the Robinson Elementary School gym to discuss the future of the school.

“The goal of this forum is to inform the community about the current situation regarding our school and potential consolidation and to discuss the different options we have as a community concerning the future of our school,” wrote Starksboro selectboard member John Painter in an Aug. 2 Front Porch Forum post.

Robinson is one of three elementary schools in the Mount Abraham Unified School district that would be “repurposed” if MAUSD Superintendent Patrick Reen’s long-range facilities plan is approved by the school board.

Under the plan, Robinson would be converted from an elementary school to an “innovation center” with programming available for all district students. Elementary education would be discontinued in the building and Starksboro’s preK-6 students would attend schools in Bristol or Monkton.

Several community proposals have been offered as alternatives to Reen’s proposal, including one by Starksboro residents Nancy Cornell and Herb Olson.
