Local drivers rule at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN — Saturday was another big night for local racers on Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s dirt oval, as three Addison County and one Brandon driver prevailed during an eight-event card.

Salisbury’s Mike Palmer pulled off the biggest win, taking one of two 25-lap features in the headline Sportsman Modified Division. Two Shoreham racers also finished strong, with Anthony Warren in second and Jimmy Ryan in fourth.

Frank Hoard of Manchester Center prevailed in the second feature, edging Brandon’s Vince Quenneville in second. Orwell’s Tim LaDuc finished fifth.

New York driver Demetrios Drellos extended his point lead in the series over Middlebury’s Justin Stone by finishing fourth in the second race. Drellos leads Stone, 673-645, followed by LaDuc (620) and Quenneville (590).

Ripton’s Chris Sumner picked up ground on Orwell’s Daryl Gebo in the points race for the Mini Stock series on Saturday. The Mini Stocks ran a pair of 15-lap features, and Sumner won the first and finished third in the second race, while Gebo managed one top-five finish, taking fourth in the second race. Gebo now leads Sumner by just 12 points, 674-662.

Brandon’s Mark Mahoney denied Sumner the sweep by claiming the victory in the second race.

Leicester’s Derrick Counter chipped in a fifth-place effort in the Mini-Stock opener

The Mini Sprint Series saw Orwell’s Ray Hanson pick up the win in one of two 12-lap races in the series, Hanson also finished fifth in the other race, and denied his closest competitor a chance to gain ground: Monkton’s Kaidin White earned second- and third-place finishes. Hanson’s lead over White in the series is 786-722.

Kamden Duffy of New Hampshire won the opener, with White in second and Brandon’s Kevin Smith in fourth. Hanson and Duffy, third in the standings, ran 1-2 in the second Mini Sprint race. Smith and Bridport’s Gage Provencher finished 4-5.
