Vergennes motorcyclist struck and killed in Route 7 crash Tuesday

NEW HAVEN — A Vergennes man died and a Cornwall woman sustained what Vermont State Police described as “significant injuries” in a motorcycle-car crash at the intersection of Route 7 and the River Road in New Haven at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

State police said their preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Honda Odyssey driven by 27-year-old Kayla Delphia of Cornwall was turning left from the River Road onto Route 7 toward Middlebury. As it did so, when a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven northbound on Route 7 by Stephen Tucker, 69, of Vergennes struck the minivan on the driver’s side.

Police said Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while Delphia was taken to Porter Hospital for treatment of “significant injuries sustained during the crash.”

State police said both vehicles were totaled, and the crash remains under investigation.

State police were assisted on scene by New Haven fire and rescue, the Addison County Sheriff’s Department, Vergennes police and Middlebury Regional EMS.
