Mt. Abe field hockey prevails; Tigers split two
ADDISON COUNTY — As the high school field hockey season opened Mount Abraham won a close road contest, and Middlebury split a pair of games.
Otter Valley’s opener at Brattleboro on Saturday was postponed. OV will instead debut at Brattleboro on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
EAGLES
On Aug. 30 the Eagles edged host U-32, 3-2. Mount Abe forwards Emma Fay, Molly Laurent and Txuxa Konczal knocked in a goal apiece, and Fay set up one score. Mount Abe will visit MUHS on Thursday afternoon.
TIGERS
Also on Aug. 30 the Tigers won their opener at Burlington, 2-1, as senior forwards Lexi Bartlett and Phoebe Smith each found the back of the cage and goalie Cassie Bettis made four saves. Seahorse goalie Jenna Peterson stopped seven MUHS bids.
On Tuesday visiting Colchester pulled away in the second half to top the Tigers, 3-0, in a game in which MUHS created chances, but could not crack a solid Laker defense or CHS goalie Ciera Morse, who stopped six shots.
The Lakers took an early lead on a goal by Petra Bajuk from Meg Lehoullier, and then withstood pressure from the Tigers for much of the latter part of the half. The Lakers got second-half goals from Brynn Coughlin, who tipped in a Lehoullier drive, and Ryleigh Garrow. Tiger goalies Ileigh Aube and Bettis split time and combined for six saves.
