Panther runners earn high finishes

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Middlebury College men’s cross-country team finished third at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday, while the women were fourth in races hosted by Williams at Mount Greylock High School. The Panthers return to action on Nov. 16 at the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Bowdoin.
Williams won the 11-team men’s race with 22 points. The Panther men scored 107 points, 10 behind second-place Amherst.
Theo Henderson paced the Panther men by taking second out of 145 runners in the 8-kilometer race in 25:41.8. Henry Fleming was 10th (26:00.7), while Quinlan McGaugh finished 23rd in 26:30.2. Connor Montgomery placed 32nd in 26:44.7, while Graham Rainsby completed the Panther scorers in 47th-place (27:03.7). Williams’ Aidan Ryan earned the conference individual crown with a time of 25:27.3.
The Panther women scored 125 points. Fourth-ranked Williams won the team title with 58 points, followed by Tufts (90) and Bates (110).
Meg Wilson led the Panther women by finishing 10th out of 146 runners in 22:46.8 over the 6K distance. Talia Ruxin was 11th in 22:47.1. Cassie Kearney placed 25th (23:29.1), Chloe Smith was 35th (23:43.1), and Erica Dean took 48th (23:53.4). Sophia Gorman of Colby claimed top individuals honors with a time of 21:40.2.
