Local 4-H members excel on state stage
BURLINGTON — 4-H club members from throughout Vermont gathered at the University of Vermont campus on Nov. 9 for the State 4-H Bovine Bonanza. A number of Addison County 4-H-ers participated in the event formerly known as the 4-H Dairy Challenge. The sessions covered hoof care, tractor safety, nutrition and reproduction.
Addison County 4-H-ers placed as follows:
10- and 11-year-olds: Paul Tipper, Bristol (fourth), and Alexis Whipple, Bridport (sixth).
12- and 13-year-olds: Avery Carl, Bridport (first); Natalie Atkins, Lincoln (second); Emma Oliver, Bridport (fifth); Brailey Livingston, New Haven (sixth); Erin Whipple, Bridport (seventh); and Brendan Gebo, Bristol (ninth).
14- to 18-year-olds: Courtney Curler, Bridport (first); Brianna Vander Wey, Ferrisburgh (third); Katherine Whipple, Bridport (fourth); Rosa Kehoe, Middlebury (ninth); Karissa Livingston, New Haven (tenth).
Other 4-H’ers who competed in the Senior Division (14-18) were Elisabeth Crawford and Morgan White, both from Whiting; Jonathan Flores-Torres, Ferrisburgh; Michael Plouffe, Bridport; and Ashton Thomas, Orwell.
Among those Assisting Wendy Sorrell, UVM Extension 4-H livestock educator, were adult volunteers Hannah Clark and Brittany Trudo, both from Shoreham; and Becky Plouffe, of Bridport.
