Area 4-H youth participate in Hippology

The State 4-H Hippology Contest took part on two separate days and venues this year. Thirty-two 4-H’ers took part with the top 10 in each age division earning a rosette ribbon.

The Addison County 4-H Beef and Dairy Clinic was held May 13 at the Addison County Fair and Field Days grounds in New Haven.

UVM Ext. 4-H is seeking high school students who are interested in taking on leadership to develop science programs or organize an environmental summit for their peers.

It took more than just knowing the answer to questions at the 2023 Addison County 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl. Contestants had to be the first to buzz in with the correct response to score points.

At the 2023 State 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl on March 11, Addison County 4-H’ers demonstrated their ability to quickly and accurately answer dairy-related questions under pressure.

The 2023 Addison County 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl was held Feb. 18 at the Shoreham Elementary School in Shoreham. Thirteen youths participated in the event.

The 4-H clubs of Addison County exhibited their projects of the past year at the Youth Hall at the County Fair this week, and they are impressive to behold.

Seven Vermont 4-H teens with an interest in food production and related career opportunities had the opportunity to visit several businesses in Addison and Chittenden counties on a food-tasting tour July 14.

Nine Addison County 4-H’ers gained valuable tips about clipping and fitting beef animals at an expert-led clinic on July 10 in New Haven.

On July 8 Addison County 4-H hosted a dairy clinic for 4-H’ers to learn how to prepare their animal for optimal performance in the show ring. The clinic took place at the Addison County Fair and Field Days site in New Haven.

On July 9, 4-H’ers from Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, Rutland and Windsor counties showed the dairy cows and calves they raised through their 4-H projects this year at the Multi-County 4-H Dairy Show.

January 15 may have been a cold and blustery day, but inside the barn at the University of Vermont (UVM) Morgan Horse Farm in Weybridge, the scene was warm and inviting as 16 local 4-H’ers gathered for the Addison County 4-H Hippology Contest.
