MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Mathew Billings, 36, of Cornwall for aggravated assault following an investigation of a reported knife-wielding man in a Jayne Court apartment on Dec. 30.
Police said no one was injured in the incident. Billings was lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center for lack of $10,000 bail, according to police.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a medical call at a Wilmar Road home on Dec. 30.
• Investigated a report on Dec. 30 of someone placing an unwanted political sticker on the outdoor bulletin board at the North Pleasant Street headquarters of Havurah, the Addison County Jewish Congregation. Police said the sticker was not anti-Semitic in nature.
• Responded to a hit-and-run accident, with property damage, in the parking lot of an Exchange Street business on Dec. 30.
• Assisted a Court Street Extension resident who wanted a man to leave her apartment on Dec. 30.
• Quieted a loud party at a Court Street residence during the evening of Dec. 31.
• Cited Carl Andrews, 24, of Salisbury for driving under the influence of marijuana, following a traffic stop on Court Street on Dec. 31. Police said they took an evidentiary sample of Andrews’ blood for analysis at the Vermont Forensic Lab.
• Received a report of the alleged theft of prescription narcotics from a guest at the warming shelter on North Pleasant Street on Dec. 31.
• Investigated allegations a man had damaged property at his estranged wife’s home on Dec. 31.
• Helped the Vermont Department for Children & Families with a welfare check on a parent and children at a Court Street home on Dec. 31.
• Checked on the welfare of a man believed to have been considering self-harm at an East Main Street home on Dec. 31. Police referred the man to Counseling Service of Addison County officials.
• Assisted Middlebury firefighters at a Rogers Road home, where smoke had been reported on Jan. 1.
• Responded to a dispute between some Halladay Road neighbors on Jan. 1.
• Responded to a complaint about loud music and a barking dog at a Court Street residence on Jan. 1.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS on a rescue call at a Route 7 South location on Jan. 1.
• Responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a Washington Street Extension home on Jan. 2. Police separated the involved parties and said no physical fight had occurred.
• Investigated a report of a man threatening to harm himself with a knife off Exchange Street. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
• Subdued a man who had allegedly been acting in an “aggressive and combative” manner at a Danyow Drive residence on Jan. 2. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
• Were informed of the theft of “miscellaneous items” from Nop’s Metalworks on Route 7 South on Jan. 3.
• Launched an investigation on Jan. 3 into allegations a Middlebury Union Middle School student had threatened another student through social media.
• Were informed on Jan. 3 of the recent theft of a watch from MUMS.
• Investigated a reported domestic disturbance at an East Main Street home on Jan. 5.
• Removed what police described as an unwanted, “heavily intoxicated person” from a Valley View Drive home on Jan. 5.
• Served a no-trespass order on Jan. 5 on a person who was not wanted at The Centre shopping plaza.
• Received a report about a man allegedly stealing a gas card and cash from a Creek Road resident on Jan. 5.
• Enforced the winter parking ban in downtown Middlebury at 1 a.m. on Jan. 5.
• Assisted Vermont State Police in taking a man into custody on an arrest warrant at the intersection of Routes 7 and 17 on Jan. 6.
