Vergennes council to discuss alleged police intimidation

VERGENNES — The Vergennes City Council will hold a special online meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday to talk about an unspecified allegation against the city’s police department.
The one item on the agenda reads, “Discussion regarding accusations that the Vergennes Police Department is demoralizing and intimidating people.”
City Manager Dan Hofman said he warned the meeting after being approached on Wednesday morning with the allegation, about which he could not comment further.
Hofman did say the best way to deal with the situation was to discuss it openly, although if it turned out to be a specific complaint against an individual employee an executive session to discuss a personnel issue was possible.
