Watch our videos to see rail work in action

MIDDLEBURY — The removal of Middlebury’s Main Street bridge this past Monday marked the beginning of the 10-week intense phase of the rail tunnel construction project. The Addison Independent has been reporting on this project since it began, but we wanted to do a little more this summer: We wanted to bring you there.
To that end, we’re collaborating with Middlebury Community Television to publish a series of videos showing the downtown happenings each week. You can watch our videos on our Facebook page, our website or MCTV. In most cases we’ll publish them on Wednesdays.
We kicked off the project last week with an interview with Kubricky project manager John Whitaker, who explained the purpose of the 300-ton crane that was recently assembled near St. Stephen’s Church. Then, on Monday, we filmed the removal of the bridge. This week we’ll show you how to get around downtown on foot (or bike). We plan to ride along on the Shuttlebury (shuttle bus); check in with business owners about the impact the construction is having on them; and explore Fifield Farm, where the massive precast concrete tunnel pieces are currently being stored.
Also, head to addisonindependent.com to see photo slideshows from the construction site.
We hope this series keeps you feeling connected to what’s happening downtown.
