Eagle Scout builds little library in Ferrisburgh

MACKENZIE AND J.P. Seeley and their children, Wyatt and Louisa, check out the new Little Library set up in their North Ferrisburgh neighborhood by Scout Shea McLaren.

FERRISBURGH — Shea McLaren, Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 539 in Vergennes, recently completed his Eagle Project by developing a Little Library and two attached benches.  The benefitting organization is the North Ferrisburgh Village Association, which has been engaged in a long-term beautification project in the village on Old Hollow Road.
McLaren received monetary assistance from the Village Association and the North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church. He also received a donation of lumber and other building supplies from the Lowe’s Home Center in Essex Center and stone from James Bennett and JKB Stone Designs, a company owned by the father of a fellow Scout. Built over the past several months in his garage, McLaren relied on the help of fellow Scouts to build the library, prepare the construction site, set the posts and finish the benches.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on June 27 with about 25 attendees.
“Great thanks to Shea McLaren for doing a such a terrific job making the library happen: organizing, fundraising, designing and building. The library and its benches and surrounding stonework look amazing,” explained Judy Chaves, the president of the North Ferrisburgh Village Association said to association members online following the event.
