This is an open letter to our elected and candidate state representatives and senators in Addison County regarding an ongoing initiative called “Sign the Pledge: Count Every Vote Vermont.” 
The President of the United States has hinted that he may not accept the outcome of our November 3rd election. We wish to engage our elected officials and candidates for office in stating publicly that they believe that his acceptance of the outcome is vital to our democracy.
We have absolute confidence that the Vermont Secretary of State, Vermont Town and City Clerks, and Boards of Civil Authority throughout Vermont will carry out their duties in a trustworthy manner. Indeed, Vermont can be seen as an example to the rest of the nation of how a democracy should function.
As I write this, we are asking the governor to pledge his support for counting all the votes as well, and to ask his colleagues across the nation to ensure the same.
This is not a partisan pledge. Rather, it is a pledge in support of the election process, which is fundamental to our democracy. It is an opportunity to come together, and share with the nation, that Vermont elected leaders and candidates stand for Democracy.
