Vergennes Police Log for Mar. 4
VERGENNES — Vergennes police in separate incidents on Saturday calmed two sets of arguing neighbors after one of the parties in each case called to complain. In both cases, police said, alcohol appeared to have been a factor.
The first call on Feb. 27 came from a Walker Avenue apartment resident. Police said they calmed and separated the two parties. One resident called the next day and asked that police serve a no-trespass order to the other, and police obliged.
The second came from the Hillside Apartment complex. Again, police said they calmed and asked the people involved, who they described as feuding, to go their separate ways.
Police said they also looked into an allegation that one party had slapped the other in the face, but said they could find no physical evidence to support a citation of simple assault.
Between Feb. 22 and 28, Vergennes police also ticketed two vehicles left overnight on streets in violation of the city’s wintertime parking ban; conducted 19 car patrols, four foot patrols and a property watch; and also:
On Feb. 23:
• Helped Addison County court personnel expunge criminal records.
• Served an abuse-prevention order on a city resident.
• Referred to Vermont State Police a New Haven resident’s complaint of credit-card fraud.
• Directed traffic around a water main break on School Street.
On Feb. 24:
• Secured an unlocked door at a Main Street business while on a foot patrol.
• Conducted a records check on behalf of a U.S. Army recruiter.
On Feb. 25:
• After responding to a two-car accident at the intersection of Hopkins Road and West Main Street with extensive vehicle damage cited Jamie Jennings, 43, of East Middlebury for driving with a civilly suspended license and without insurance.
• Went to Thomas Circle to handle a report of a man knocking on a door and asking to use a phone. Police discovered a local tenant walking a dog who had locked himself out of an apartment without his phone, and made a call to help him get back inside.
On Feb. 28:
• Responded to a false report of three people on an East Street roof.
• Backed up state police as they worked to make an arrest for simple assault at a New Haven home.
