Lions, Scouts, Rotary hold successful food drive
VERGENNES/BRISTOL — The Vergennes Lions Club, with help from Scout Troop 539 and the Vergennes Rotary, on Feb. 13 held its 11th Annual “Food from the Heart” food drive to benefit the Vergennes Community Food Shelf and the St. Ambrose Food Shelf in Bristol.
In Vergennes, 40 “banana boxes” of food and $1,340 in cash donations (a record) were collected. In Bristol, 42 “banana boxes” of food and $372 in cash donations were collected for the Bristol Food Shelf. Food Drive chairman Lion Harry Curth said the drive’s success could not have been accomplished without the Scouts, who have helped the last six years, and the Vergennes Rotary all working as a team.
The Lions offered a very special thanks to the businesses that allowed us to collect at their properties: Shaw’s Supermarkets in Bristol and Vergennes and Discount Foods in Vergennes. Organizers are fortunate to have local businesses eager to help out in the communities they serve. And, thank you to all those who made food and cash donations to help those in need. So many thanked the Lions and their partners for doing this drive each year when the shelves are at their greatest need.
