Local 4-H club does well at Bovine Bonanza
BURLINGTON — 4-H club members from throughout the state had an opportunity to test their knowledge of all things bovine in the annual Bovine Bonanza, held virtually this year.
The University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H competition, divided by age group, was open to 4-H’ers enrolled in the dairy, beef and working steer projects. It consisted of several age-appropriate questions in four categories: animal health, types and production of cheese, commercial crops, and parts of a cow.
Registered participants received an information packet with test questions in late February. They then had a week to submit their answers, which were scored to determine individual rankings.
Local participants scored per age group as follows:
8-9 years: Gracelynn Barber, Shoreham (3); Tenley Chittenden, Shoreham (6).
10-11 years: Caroline Allen, Ferrisburgh (4).
12-13 years: Erin Whipple, Bridport (13).
14-18 years: Courtney Curler, Bridport (1); Michael Plouffe, Bridport (3); Elisabeth Crawford, Whiting (4); Rosa Kehoe, Middlebury (6); Morgan White, Whiting (10); Brailey Livingston, New Haven (12); Abby Reen, Lincoln (18); Karissa Livingston, New Haven (25); Katherine Whipple, Bridport (27); Brendan Gebo, Bristol (28).
