VERGENNES — Vergennes police on March 27 cited a Bristol resident for possession of drugs following a Route 7 traffic stop.
Police allege that John C. Cunningham, 47, had six grams of cocaine in the vehicle and $2,125 in cash on his person when they searched him and his vehicle after stopping him after he allegedly failed to stop for a red light at Route 7’s intersection with Monkton Road.
Police said they saw drug paraphernalia in Cunningham’s vehicle and asked for permission to search it, but were denied. They said they obtained a warrant to do so, in part because the department’s canine alerted on the vehicle.
Police said they also found marked plastic bags and a box of unused needles in the vehicle, and that trafficking charges remain possible.
In action between March 29 and April 4, Vergennes police went out on 13 patrols by cruiser and one on foot, twice conducted pre-employment fingerprinting, responded to one false alarm, and:
On March 29:
•  Helped Vermont State Police at a Ferrisburgh assault case.
•  Advised a Main Street resident with a computer infected by ransomware to consult the FBI website.
•  Spoke to a First Street resident who had allegedly approached a home with a rifle; the man said it was a deliberately false allegation.
•  Went to a home to help the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with a report of a babysitter dealing with mental issues.
On March 30:
•  Confirmed for New York State Police that a resident had replaced a headlight.
•  Advised a caller who had regularly received scam calls from a blocked number to block the caller.
•  Stopped a car on Main Street that Vermont State Police had reported for erratic operation and found no driver impairment.
On April 1:
•  Advised a Main Street resident who said others in the building were hacking her phone to invest in anti-hacking measures.
•  Following a Main Street traffic stop for erratic driving, cited a Starksboro man for driving with a civilly suspended license, with plates not assigned, and without insurance.
On April 3:
•  On behalf of Bristol police cited Raymond White, 34, of Vergennes for aggravated disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and stalking.
•  Heard a complaint from a First Street resident that a man had regularly driven up to his home, knocked on his door, and then driven away.
•  On April 4 were told by a Hillside Drive resident that a pickup had driven on his lawn, damaging it and a stepping stone. In a follow-up call, the resident said the driver had agreed to fix the damage.
