Opinion: Shoreham merger was no relief

In the March 12 edition of the Addison Independent, an article in reference to the merger between Shoreham and Bridport elementary schools, John Flowers reported that ACSD School Board Chair Barbara “Wilson will leave at a cathartic moment in Shoreham Elementary School history.”

While I generally enjoy and appreciate the reporting in the Addison Independent, I must take exception to this choice of words. The merger was hardly cathartic for many residents of Shoreham. Quite the opposite, in fact. For a number of Shorehamites this was a bitter pill to swallow with a flavor that will linger for years. Evidence for this may be found in the Shoreham Town Meeting minutes of March 2026.
