Ways of Seeing: Vermont spirit is one way forward

As a small child, if I got hurt, one of my parents would tend to my injury. Then they would “kiss it to make it better.” Did a kiss actually fix my skinned knee? No, but it did help. I felt better with that kiss. If I got a shot at my doctor’s, they would offer a stick of candy. I could anticipate that as I bravely put up with the injection. If I was sad, worried, or sick, I would be held, sung to, or read a story. It might not take away the issue, but it did bring me comfort.
