CATIE RAISHART AND her husband, Mark, tap around 500 maples on their Foxglove Farm in Leicester. Unusually, they tap red maples, rather than the celebrated sugar maple. It doesn’t seem to matter — the 150 gallons of syrup they produce is as sweet as any you’re going to taste. After the heavy snowfall on Saturday, the crowd at the sugarhouse on Sunday was not huge, but they were appreciative. Independent photos/Steve James

MARK RAISHART FEEDS another piece of hardwood into the evaporator at the Foxglove Farm sugarhouse in Leicester on Sunday during Vermont Open Sugarhouse Weekend. He and his wife, Catie, boil up about 150-200 gallons of maple syrup each year. Independent photo/Steve James

After a dozen years of publishing Vermont Sports Magazine, Addison Press Inc. has sold the publication and its digital properties to Adirondack Sports & Fitness LLC of Clifton Park, N.Y.

Adirondack Sports & Fitness, owned by Darryl and Mona Caron, publishes Upstate Sports (formerly Adirondack Sports) magazine monthly, and hosts two large outdoor recreational sports and travel shows — the Summer Expo in March and the Winter Expo in October — in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The company has been around for 26 years.

“We’re happy Vermont Sports will continue to thrive under this new leadership,” said former owner and co-publisher Angelo Lynn. “It’s a good marriage to join the recreational activities of upstate New York with those of Vermont and New England.”

A free chamber music concert in a wine bar sounds
A free chamber music concert in a wine bar sounds pretty nice, right? That's what’s on tap for this Saturday, when Duo Dulce, a violin and cello duet featuring Laura Markowitz and John Dunlop, performs at 10 Green Street Wine Bar in Vergennes. The performance is part of the Vergennes Opera House’s “Off Stage” Series, which features performances in venues around Vergennes while the opera house is under construction. Happy New Year! Crowds went to the Rec Park in Middlebury on Wednesday evening to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks ring in 2026; but because they were launched high above the shire town, there were plenty of good vantage points from which to enjoy the fiery blossoms, including this spot on Main Street’s Battell Bridge.

Whether he’s got a pencil or a musical instrument
Whether he’s got a pencil or a musical instrument in hand, Reagh Greenleaf Jr. likes to blend the old with the new through the art that he creates. Greenleaf is the artist behind RambleTree, a Celtic art and apparel business based in Bristol. The brand shares a name with the Irish-Americana jam band Greenleaf co-founded in 2014, which also draws from Celtic material along with other inspirations.

The two ventures are distinct but connected, and both allow Greenleaf to blend his work as an artist and musician with his interests in his Irish heritage and Celtic art and music. Through both endeavors, he looks to bring something new to the musical and artistic traditions he’s been inspired by.
