Award-winning actor and playwright John Cariani is coming to the Middlebury College campus this week, offering free and open to the public workshops in playwriting and acting, as the Theatre Department kicks off rehearsals of his popular play “Almost, Maine.”

How to Write a Play When You’re Stuck…
If you think you might want to write a play but don’t know where to begin, this workshop is for you. If you’ve started a bunch of plays but never finished them, this workshop is for you. If you don’t like to write but want to be a playwright, this workshop is for you. In one 90-minute session, John Cariani will offer a series of exercises to get you motivated, unblocked, unstuck, and inspired. Open to the public, registration required. Community Acting Workshop: Plays Are Not TV Shows or Movies
This workshop, led by John Cariani and Theatre Professor Alex Draper, will consider how the body exists on stage, and how the storytelling of theatre is vastly different from the media we engage with on a daily basis. Through a series of acting and movement exercises that encourage play, participants will explore how the whole body is engaged when telling a story on stage.
