Dana James Drown, 53, of Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY — Dana James Drown passed away unexpectedly after a long and difficult battle with addiction, a struggle rooted in mental health challenges and the lack of adequate support and resources available to those in need. Though his struggles were real, they never defined the love he had for his family or the life he lived.
Dana was an all-American boy at heart. He attended Middlebury Union High School, where he played football and built lasting friendships. He had a deep love for sports, a passion for racing, and could often be found listening to his favorite country music.
Dana was a father and grandfather. He leaves behind his children, his one and only girl, Chelsea “Chelsea Bug” Hatch, and sons Talon, Maxx “Hammer,” and Tate, who carry forward his spirit and memory. He also leaves behind his beautiful grandchildren, Buckley and Raelynne Hatch, and Adalyn and Emersyn Rheaume. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Karen Taylor, and his nieces, Katie and Kylie; his father, Donald “Pat” Drown; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is reunited in peace with his son, Jett Rheuame, and his mother, Diane Laduc Dutton, who was his rock!
Dana will be remembered for his love of life, his strong presence, and the moments of joy he shared with those around him. His family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace.
A private service or celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages others to advocate for better mental health and addiction resources, especially in Vermont, and to show compassion and understanding toward those facing similar struggles, in honor of Dana’s journey.◊
