Forrest C. G. Manning, 87, of Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY — Forrest C. G. Manning, 87, of Middlebury, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026. Forrest was born in Waltham, Mass., March 9, 1939, the son of Clifton and Lucille (Emerson) Manning. He grew up in Rochester Vt., and Randolph, Vt., before attending the University of Vermont, where he graduated with a B.A. in Education in 1962. He married Maureen Guest in 1973 and moved to Shoreham, where they had two sons.
Forrest taught at Shoreham High School from 1964 to 1969 and then took a job as a salesman for over 20 years. He returned to teaching after retiring from sales and became a Substitute teacher in schools within Addison County before finding a home at MUHS, where he remained until June of 2025.
Forrest was a beloved member of the community and enjoyed meeting his friends to catch up and reminisce. He was a member of the Masons for 55 years and had joined Phi Mu Delta – Nu Gamma while attending UVM.
Forrest is survived by his sons, Brian of Shoreham and Stephen (Amy) of Leicester. He also leaves behind his sister Linda, brothers Cliff and Keith, three nieces and a nephew.
Per Forrest’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral. There will be a gathering for remembrance on Saturday, May 2, at 3 p.m. at Rosie’s Restaurant. ◊
