Marlins swimmers wrap up season at St. Albans

ST. ALBANS — The Middlebury Marlins Swim Team fell to St. Albans, 285-147, on Tuesday in the final dual meet of the Champlain Valley Swim League season.

With the regular season coming to a close, the Marlins are gearing up to host the league championships this coming weekend with sessions starting at 4 p.m. on Friday and at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Marlins and other Champlain Valley Swim League teams will head to Hartford’s Upper Valley Aquatic Center the following weekend for the Vermont Swim Association’s summer championship meet.

Host St. Albans held a 12-4 edge in relays, but despite it being a late night filled with tough competition, the visiting Marlins put up a good fight with many swimmers taking multiple wins.

Jorgen Pirrung claimed four individual wins, earning first in every event he swam and scoring 20 points for his team.

Enea Ancarani and Elise Almstrand both had strong performances, each touching the final wall first three times.

Constantin Bellmann earned two first-place finishes in the Boys 13-14 50-yd butterfly and breaststroke.
