Middlebury Police Log: Woman cited for resisting arrest, DUI and assault
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Carolina M. Fisher, 28, of Bristol for suspicion of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and assault on law enforcement, following a vehicle accident on Case Street at around 3:50 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Returned, to Porter Hospital, an intoxicated patient who had fled the facility in attire that wasn’t warm enough for the outside weather on Feb. 17.
• Cited 24-year-old Devon Dempsey for suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a criminally suspended license on Seminary Street Extension on Feb. 17.
• Responded to a report of a person refusing to leave Two Brothers Tavern on Feb. 17.
• Assisted Middlebury firefighters at an Exchange Street filling station where a gas pump wouldn’t shut off on Feb. 17.
• Served no-trespass orders on Feb. 17 to two individuals who weren’t wanted at Hannaford supermarket.
• Referred, to Addison County Restorative Justice Services, a person who had been accused of retail theft at Hannaford supermarket on Feb. 17.
• Helped a driver whose vehicle was stuck in snow on Case Street on Feb. 17.
• Helped a driver whose vehicle was stuck in a snowbank off Stewart Lane on Feb. 17.
• Provided traffic control while a stuck tractor-trailer truck was freed from snow on South Main Street on Feb. 17.
• Checked on the welfare of a man who had a bloodied face while shopping at Hannaford supermarket on Feb. 18.
• Served a no-trespass order on a man who had allegedly become unruly at a Route 7 South business on Feb. 18.
• Received a complaint about a man walking in traffic on Bakery Lane on Feb. 18.
• Loaned the department’s K9 team to Vermont State Police for an investigation of a vehicle at the intersection of Route 7 and Hunt Road. Police said K9 Guinness alerted on the vehicle for potentially containing illegal drugs. As a result, state police seized the vehicle pending a search warrant.
• Conducted traffic control in Court Square while road crews removed snow on Feb. 19.
• Responded to an untimely death report in the Danyow Drive neighborhood on Feb. 19. Police said the deceased — Jennifer M. Ray, 54 — is presumed to have died from natural causes.
• On Feb. 19, checked on the welfare of a homeless man who resides in a tent off Merchants Row.
• Responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a South Village Green residence on Feb. 20.
• Received a complaint about heavy equipment being operated downtown at around 3 a.m. on Feb. 20.
• Cited William T. Whitney, 23, of Brandon for criminal threatening and disorderly conduct, following an investigation in the Court Street area on Feb. 20
• Enforced the community’s overnight winter parking ban downtown on Feb. 20.
• Helped state police arrest a suspect at the Frank Mahady Courthouse on Feb. 21.
• Responded to a stolen-vehicle report at the Court Plaza shopping center off Court Street on Feb. 22. Police said the case is under investigation.
• Cited Jason Cromie, 33, Ashley Thibault, 39, and Scott Kastner, 42, all of Burlington, for possession of a stolen vehicle in The Center shopping center parking lot off Court Street Extension on Feb. 22. Police said additional charges are still pending and that the three are tentatively slated to be arraigned for the alleged offense in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, on April 7.
• Assisted Vermont State Police with their investigation of an alleged domestic disturbance at a home off Prunier Road in Weybridge on Feb. 22.
• Helped a Happy Valley Road resident who was experiencing a mental health crisis on Feb. 23.
• Investigated a trespassing complaint at a Court Street business on Feb. 23.
• Came across what appeared to be a wounded owl on Painter Road at around 1:15 a.m. on Feb. 24. Upon inspection, police discovered the owl was uninjured, and was simply having difficulty carrying a dead rabbit off the road.
• Responded to Hannaford supermarket on Feb. 24 on a retail theft report.
