Middlebury Police Log: Police investigate alleged video
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Jan. 23 began investigating a report of some juvenile Middlebury Union High School students making a recording of themselves having sex and then sharing that recording via social media. Police said MUHS officials are also investigating the incident in collaboration with the School Resource Officer.
In other action last week, Middlebury police enforced the community’s overnight winter parking ban downtown on Jan. 20, 22, 23, 24 and 27. They also:
• Gave a ride home to a drunken man who was walking down North Pleasant Street at around 5:10 p.m. on Jan. 20.
• Gave a woman information about how to obtain a temporary restraining order on Jan. 20.
• Checked on the welfare of a person at the intersection of Main Street and Merchants Row on Jan. 20.
• Interviewed a Porter Hospital patient about the cause of his injuries on Jan. 20.
• Checked on a homeless person who had been sleeping in a tent off Merchants Row during frigid temperatures on Jan. 21.
• Investigated two separate theft complains at a Court Street store on Jan. 21.
• Responded to a report of someone finding drugs on the floor of a Route 7 South gas station on Jan. 21.
• Gave a courtesy ride to a patient who had been discharged from Porter Hospital on Jan. 21.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with an uncooperative patient on Court Street on Jan. 21.
• Took a drunken man into protective custody in the Court Street area on Jan. 22.
• Checked the welfare of local homeless folks living outdoors on Jan. 22.
• Launched an investigation on Jan. 23 into a recent theft of items from a vehicle parked on South Main Street. Police said the culprit fraudulently used credit cards stolen from the vehicle.
• Investigated a report of gunshots in the Battell Woods on Jan. 23.
• Began investigating the legitimacy of an attempted vehicle sale by a Jackson Lane resident on Jan. 23.
• Deployed thermal drones and the department’s K-9 unit to the Valley View Drive area to find a man who had walked away from his home during the early, frigid morning of Jan. 23 after saying he wanted to harm himself. Police ultimately found the man, who was OK.
• Cited Elizabeth Scott, 29, of Ripton for driving under the influence, following a traffic stop on East Main Street on Jan. 24.
• Cited Laura Fenn, 43, of Middlebury for driving with a criminally suspended license at the intersection of Foote Street and Route 7 South on Jan. 24.
• Responded to a report of an owl being struck by a vehicle on Case Street on Jan. 24. Police said the owl was turned over to the local game warden.
• Were informed that an abandoned vehicle parked near the intersection of Route 116 and Quarry Road had been vandalized on Jan. 24. Police contacted the owner of the vehicle who agreed to remove it.
• Investigated the reported theft of money from a vehicle parked in the South Village Green neighborhood on Jan. 25.
• Took, to receive detox services, a drunken man who had been causing a disturbance outside of Two Brothers Tavern on Main Street on Jan. 25.
• Helped a local resident who had been receiving unwanted mail on Jan. 25.
• Helped a Jayne Court resident find their lost cellphone on Jan. 25.
• Cited Alexandra A. Mustafaj, 22, for driving under the influence, following a traffic stop on North Pleasant Street on Jan. 26. Police said they measured Mustafaj’s blood-alcohol content at 0.182%.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a sick patient in the Washington Street area on Jan. 26.
