Vergennes Police Log: Speeding driver facing charges

VERGENNES — Charges are pending against a woman who fled from a Green Street encounter on Friday, Jan. 17, with Vergennes police and allegedly led them on a car chase that police abandoned because of safety concerns.

Police were originally called to the scene because of a suspicious vehicle outside the One Credit Union on Green Street. Police reported the male passenger entered the bank and asked to use a bathroom, but was denied. When police arrived, they said they spoke with the female driver and the passenger, and the driver first provided false information to them “before eventually” identifying herself as Jodi Palmer 46, and admitting she did not have a valid license.

Police said while they were attempting to run her information, Palmer fled the scene in her vehicle, allegedly “driving at negligent speeds and passing vehicles unsafely. The attempt to stop her was discontinued due to this.”

Police said when Palmer is tracked down, she faces charges of eluding a police officer, driving with a criminally suspended license, and providing false information to a police officer.

Between Jan. 13 and 19, Vergennes police also conducted 13 traffic stops, seven cruiser patrols, and a VIN inspection; processed four pre-employment fingerprint requests; and also:
