Vergennes Police Log for Jan. 9

VERGENNES — Vergennes police were recently investigating one case of alleged fraud reported by a city resident when they came across a separate case in which they found a motorcycle at a Bristol residence they said was apparently stolen from a Brandon resident.

Police said because the cases remain under investigation some details remain confidential. The outline is they took a call from the Vergennes resident on Saturday alleging, according to the weekly report, “several unauthorized withdrawals from a deceased man’s bank account.”

While looking into those allegations, police said they learned of the stolen motorcycle. They then notified Brandon police because its owner’s family lived in that town. That case is also being looked into, police said.

Between Dec. 30 and Jan. 5, Vergennes police also conducted 30 traffic stops, 15 cruiser patrols and one property watch; processed one pre-employment fingerprint request; and:

On Dec. 30:

• Heard from a Green Street resident that a person had been videoed in their backyard by a security camera. Police looked at the footage and determined it was the caller’s neighbor and passed along the information.

• Checked out a one-car accident on West Main Street and discovered a resident had “misjudged the driveway.” The vehicle owner called AAA.

• Heard from a Canal Street resident that a suspicious man in his driveway had been scared off by a motion light, but nothing had been disturbed.

On Dec. 31:

• Looked into a report of a fraud involving a rental property, a case that is still under investigation.

• Responded to the report of theft of cash from a local business, another case that remains under investigation.

• Were told a wallet had been stolen from a car parked at Shaw’s Supermarket, but heard later from the owner it had been found.

On Jan. 1 were told by a South Maple Street resident that an American flag had been stolen from her porch. Police said they would increase patrols in the area.

On Jan. 2:

• Responded to a minor two-vehicle accident on Panton Road.

• Helped Vergennes Union High School staff with a student they described as out of control.

On Jan. 3:

• Went to Alden Place to deal with a Valley Vista client that the rehab center alleged was out of control. Police said she was from Montpelier and had no means to return home. Police provided the client with information on the bus schedule and a courtesy ride to the bus stop at the park and ride in Ferrisburgh.

• Responded to a minor two-vehicle accident on South Maple Street.

On Jan. 4 dealt with a noise disturbance in a Main Street apartment building.

On Jan. 5 ordered two cars to be towed that were left out on city streets overnight in violation of the city’s winter parking ban during a storm.
