Tiger girls defeat Stowe and Burr & Burton

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team won two out of three outings last week, including splitting two games in the Tigers’ own annual holiday tournament in the Memorial Sports Center.

Back on Dec. 23, the Tigers edged host Stowe, 3-2, getting two goals from McKenna Raymond and one from Sawyer Witscher and, according to Coach P.J. Lalonde, “some nice saves” from goalie Ruby Hubbell. Lalonde added the Tigers had lots of chances, but that Stowe’s goalie played “an excellent game.”

In this past Friday’s tournament opener, visiting U-32 dealt the Tigers their first setback of the winter, 6-1. Raiders Emily Tringe (two goals, two assists) and Hannah Drury (three goals) did most of the damage for their team. U-32 goalie Adelaide Croteau stopped 15 shots.

For the Tigers, Raymond scored with assists from Becka Seeley and Kate Kozak, and Hubbell made 36 saves.

In Friday’s other first-round game, Burr and Burton rolled past Harwood, 10-1.

On Saturday, the Tigers bounced back to edge Burr & Burton, 2-1, as Hubbell backstopped the victory with 39 saves. On the attack, Raymond scored one goal and assisted Nova Bojanowski goal.

Katie Brownlee scored for the Bulldogs, and goalie Marley Clark made nine saves.

U-32 claimed the tournament crown with a 9-1 victory over Harwood in Saturday’s other second-round game.
