Vergennes Police Log: Man cited for recent break-ins
VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Nov. 30 cited a Waltham man for recent break-ins at the Vergennes Animal Hospital and the Vergennes DDS dental practice.
Cited was Jacob Burmania, 30, for an early morning Nov. 25 burglary at the animal hospital and a Nov. 18 burglary at the dental office.
Police said that on the morning of Nov. 25 a citizen called the department after finding a cashbox near the animal hospital. Police responded to the scene and said the box had apparently been pried open, but still contained a checkbook, keys and a copy of a credit card belonging to the owner of the animal hospital.
Police then reached the owner, and they determined that an individual had entered the animal hospital around 12:30 a.m. that morning. In reviewing the video footage, police alleged they recognized Burmania, who they said in a report “looked right at the camera,” and whom they knew “from prior law enforcement encounters.”
Police found him at a Maple Street, Waltham, address on Nov. 30 and took him into custody. Police cited Burmania into court on April 14, 2025, to answer to two counts of burglary, adding “more charges are pending.”
In other incidents between Nov. 25 and Dec. 1, Vergennes police conducted 43 traffic stops, 15 patrols by cruiser and one on foot and one property watch; processed one pre-employment fingerprint request; responded to one false alarm; and also:
On Nov. 25:
• Took a report from Auto Creek that a male had broken into the business late on the day before and gone to its cash register, but left without taking anything when discovering it was empty. Police said on Monday an investigation is pending.
• Explained to a person with a relief-from-abuse order that the defendant named in the order could not be forced to leave his workplace when the complainant knowingly chose to enter the premises when the defendant was present.
• Once again received a number of voicemails from a Hillside Acres resident with a history of mental health issues, but who police said is resistant to accepting help.
On Nov. 26:
• Took a complaint from a Main Street resident that was referred to Vermont State Police because the incident in question occurred at the Basin Harbor resort in Ferrisburgh.
• Conducted a security check of the Vergennes Animal Hospital because the owner was concerned the camera was not working the day after the recent break-in.
• Received a tip of recent criminal activity in the area.
• Assisted Bristol police with an investigation.
On Nov. 29 checked on a report of a suspicious person on Walker Avenue. Police determined the person was a resident completing errands and cleaning a car.
On Dec. 1 began investigating the report of a theft of a 2013 Subaru Outback from Country Commons.
