ADDISON COUNTY — In races for Vermont Senate and House seats in Addison County, Republicans are doing much better this election than they have for the past few cycles.

Bristol Republican State Senate candidate Steven Heffernan has had strong results in several towns, as has Democratic incumbent Ruth Hardy. Early indications are that those two are leading with maybe half the towns reporting. If that holds for the rest of the county, then Heffernan will replace the other incumbent, Sen. Christopher Bray, a Bristol Democrat.

In the Addison-3 House district in the Vergennes area, Republican challenger Rob North and longtime incumbent Rep. Diane Lanpher are leading in the two-seat district with only one town left to file results. Unofficially, North and Lanpher could be the next Addison-3 state reps, and incumbent Matt Birong and Ferrisburgh Republican Joe Baker could finish out of the money.

In Addison-2, GOP challenger Christine Stone won her hometown of Leicester as well as Salisbury, but Democratic incumbent Peter Conlon won big in Cornwall and Ripton. With only Goshen voters still unreported, Conlon leads by nearly 300 votes.

In Addison-4, Democrats Mari Cordes and Herb Olsen are leading their Republican opponents.

Incumbent Jubilee McGill looks to be firmly in control of Addison-5.
