Vergennes Police Log for Oct. 24

VERGENNES — On Oct. 16 Vergennes police handled a stolen vehicle complaint that resulted in a New York resident being cited for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

On that Tuesday a Hopkins Road resident reported that he had said he would lend the vehicle to a New York resident who had agreed to purchase it, but the New Yorker then refused to pay for or return the vehicle. According to police, they found the vehicle in New York, had it towed and cited the woman, Hannah Frazier, for the offense of operating it without the city resident’s consent.

In other action between Oct. 14 and 20, Vergennes police conducted 16 patrols in cruisers and one on foot, 11 traffic stops, and one VIN inspection; processed three pre-employment fingerprint requests; and also:

On Oct. 14:

• Took multiple calls and voicemails from a Hillside Drive resident who police have worked with previously due to “known mental health issues.” They dealt with a similar call on Oct. 16.

• Spoke with a Hillside Drive couple involved in a custody dispute and suggested they contact Family Court to help work out their differences.

• Were told of an erratic driver, but could not find the individual.

On Oct. 15:

• Helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with a call at 1 Alden Place.

• Arrested Matthew Porcaro of Vergennes on an outstanding warrant from Addison County.

On Oct. 16:

• Arrested Kevin Miller, 33, last known address in Panton, on an outstanding warrant and took him to court in Middlebury.

• Helped a Main Street resident obtain a relief-from-abuse order and advised her on how to access services.

On Oct. 17:

• Returned a found credit card to its owner.

• Determined that a man reported as suspicious by a North Main Street bank employee posed no cause for concern.

• Assisted at a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of Monkton Road and Route 7 until Vermont State Police arrived.

• Participated at a community meet-and-greet at Rockers Pizza.

On Oct. 18:

• Took a report of people trespassing on the Vergennes Grand construction site on North Street, but found no problem.

• Conducted two background checks on potential department hires.

On Oct. 19:

• Tried to serve a citation on Armory Lane for Williston police, but were told the individual no longer lived there.

• Checked the welfare of a Booska Court resident and found no problem.

On Oct. 20:

• Checked a report of fireworks going off near The Antidote on Green Street, including one striking a nearby apartment window. Police said they are still investigating.

• Checked the welfare of a Walker Avenue resident and found no problem.
