Football: Otters win; Tigers, Eagles come up short
ADDISON COUNTY — Among local high school football teams, only Division III Otter Valley prevailed this past weekend, as Middlebury lost on the road to D-I’s undefeated first-place team, while D-II Mount Abraham/Vergennes came up short at home against D-III’s undefeated first-place squad.
TIGERS
Host Champlain Valley moved to 6-0 by rolling to a 41-7 victory on Saturday morning over the Tigers. Redhawk quarterback Orion Yates tossed four touchdown passes, three to Jacob Armstrong and one to Billy Yates. Redhawk Dylan Terricciano scored twice, once on a rushing play and once by recovering a Tiger fumble in the end zone.
The Tigers got on the board when quarterback Luke Nuceder connected on a 66-yard TD pass with Tucker Morter.
MUHS dropped to 4-2 and into fifth place in D-I with a Friday home game against second-place Essex next.
OTTERS
The Otters cruised to a 41-12 road triumph on Saturday over winless D-III foe Missisquoi, evening OV’s record at 3-3 in the process. Otter Valley stands in fourth place in D-III.
The Otters took a 28-0 halftime lead and scored to open the second half before substituting freely. Otters quarterback Zac Dragon tossed touchdown passes to Max Potter, Colby Benoit and Chase Razanouski, and Razanouski also ran for a score. Drake Felkl and Benoit also rushed for OV touchdowns.
T-Bird quarterback Reid Myers threw for 159 passing yards and two second-half TDs to Hadyn Richardson, but was also picked off once by Dragon, who also tossed an interception.
The Otters have a bye this weekend before their regular-season finale against Mill River.
EAGLES
Also on Saturday visiting Fairfax outlasted the Eagles, 40-25, in improving to 6-0. Running back Darius Pelton did most of the damage for the Bullets with touchdown runs of 40, 5, 70 and 60 yards. His 60-yard run opened the second half and gave Fairfax a two-score lead. Bullet Jacob Gray returned an Eagle fumble for a TD in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory, and Fairfax QB Daniel Mlcuch tossed a 37-yard TD pass to Joe Brock.
For MAV, QB Tyler White ran for 46 yards and three touchdowns and threw for another 94 yards, while Cole Gagnon lugged the ball 24 times for 97 yards and returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. Mason Atkins added five rushes for 60 yards.
The setback left the Eagles at 4-2, and they remained in sixth place in D-II with a home date against Milton coming this Saturday afternoon.
